Normal Stomach Lining
Here you see a deep ulcer crater in the stomach lining of a 55 year old gentleman who was taking aspirin pills daily for arthritis. Interestingly, his first symptom was vomiting blood as the ulcer became deep enough to hit an artery beneath the stomach lining. Often, ulcers caused by apirin and other medications for arthritis cause no heartburn and are recognized only when a complication occurs such as bleeding or perforation.
